Test report

ZEEKR 001-front

ZEEKR is an emerging name in the Chinese electric vehicle sector. The acronym ZEEKR may not be widely recognized; 'ZE' represents Zero, 'E' symbolizes the Evolution of the Electric Era, and 'KR' denotes Krypton, a noble gas that glows when electrified. ZEEKR is part of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a Fortune 500 entity and one of the top 10 global car manufacturers. The company produces vehicles for the mass market, owns brands like Volvo, Lotus, Proton, Polestar, LYNK & CO, and smart, and is also involved in the development of electric and aerial vehicles. Presently, ZEEKR offers two models: the ZEEKR 001 and the ZEEKR X. In a one-hour test drive, we explored the ZEEKR 001, which comes in three variants: the Privilege and the Performance, both featuring four-wheel drive, and the Long Range with rear-wheel drive. The Privilege and Performance models boast a dual-engine setup with 400 kW (544 hp), while the Long Range, a single-engine variant, delivers 200 kW (272 hp). The driving ranges for the Privilege, Performance, and Long Range are 585 km, 594 km, and 620 km (WLTP), respectively.

Driveline

Driveline

The ZEEKR 001 utilizes the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), a modular EV platform introduced by Geely in the previous year. GEELY SEA1.

Three versions

The ZEEKR 001 is available in three versions:

  • the ZEEKR 001 Long Range - 620 km driving range (WLTP)
  • the ZEEKR 001 Privilege - 585 km driving range (WLTP)
  • the ZEEKR 001 Performance - 594 km driving range (WLTP)

Both the Privilege and Performance have a dual engine and are four-wheel drive. Both have an output of 400 kW (545 hp). The Privilege is equipped with active air suspension. The Long Range has a single motor and rear-wheel drive. The output is 200 kW (272 hp).

Battery capacity

The ZEEKR 001 uses a lithium-ion battery (NMC). The total battery capacity is 100 kWh, with a usable capacity of 94 kWh across all three versions.

Driving modes

The standard driving modes available are Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

Regeneration

Regarding regeneration, the choices are restricted. You can either opt for OPD (One-Pedal Driving) or not, adjustable via the central touchscreen.

Consumption

Regrettably, the test drive was insufficient for a conclusive assessment. The 27.7 km journey resulted in a consumption of 14.8 kWh per 100 km, with a portion on the motorway and the remainder on inner roads. This is not an unfavorable consumption rate. Additionally, the various driving modes were evaluated during the drive.

Driving and comfort

Driving

A one-hour test drive may not be sufficient to fully assess the car's potential. Nevertheless, the car offers a smooth ride, especially with the air suspension exclusive to the Privilege model. Engaging the power driving mode noticeably unleashes the vehicle's strength.

Space

Geen probleem wat ruimte betreft. De zetels voelen goed aan.

Ease of handling

We are gradually getting used to controls being via the central screen. What is practical is that a number of things can be done via the quick screen. Yet it is still easier to adjust the mirrors via buttons. The rest is just becoming.

Touchscreens

The state-of-the-art, user-friendly 15.4-inch touchscreen allows for easy adjustments to personal preferences and settings, as well as access to various apps.

Rear passengers can control climate, sound, and seating positions through a 7.7-inch touchscreen, available exclusively on the Privilege AWD model.

An 8.8-inch instrument panel provides all the essential information needed while driving.

Frunk

The ZEEKR 001 features a small frunk just big enough to store your charging cables.

Safety & ADAS (Advanced Driving Asist Systems)

Euro NCAP

The ZEEKR 001 has earned a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. This safety rating is the result of a series of vehicle tests, designed and executed by Euro NCAP. A five-star safety rating indicates an overall excellent performance in crash protection, complemented by cutting-edge crash avoidance technology.

ZEEKR 001-back

First impressions are crucial, and the ZEEKR 001 certainly makes a good one with its appealing design, inviting interior, and enjoyable driving experience. Regrettably, the test drive duration was insufficient to form a comprehensive opinion, particularly regarding the vehicle's consumption and practical driving range.
